Women in the Democratic Party call on President Biden and members of Congress to safeguard federal abortion rights

The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has heightened political tensions between the federal government and the states, and leading Democratic women have called on President Joe Biden and Congress to safeguard the right to abortion throughout the country.

Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, two of the most radical members of the Democratic Party, urged President Joe Biden to utilise federal territory as a sanctuary for abortions in places where the procedure is illegal or severely restricted.

Ocasio-Cortez told NBC’s Meet the Press that “forcing women to bear babies against their choice would kill them.”

When Republicans blocked an attempt to codify Roe v. Wade in the Senate last month, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams called on Democrats in Congress to do so by rejecting the filibuster rule.

Our ability to vote should not be split across states, and we believe that the troubling trend of stripping constitutional protections and having each state judge the quality of your citizenship is wrong, Abrams told CNN’s State of The Union..

In a separate appearance with Fox News Sunday, she stated, “I would dispute the concept that this is the will of the people.”

There were calls from the Democratic Party for President Joe Biden to fight for women’s access to an anti-abortion medication, which his administration has indicated it would handle.

Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota, a Republican, said her state, which is one of 13 conservative states with “trigger” abortions presently or soon to be triggered, would continue to outlaw the mailing of abortion pills.

A woman’s constitutional right to an abortion does not exist, the Supreme Court said. “It implies that in each state they will determine how to handle these circumstances,” Noem said on CBS Face the Nation. Because of our country’s relatively small federal government, “I’m a big fan,” she remarked.

Following the decision of Roe v. Wade, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, called on the Biden administration to do all in its power to protect women’s reproductive rights. Whitmer has launched a lawsuit to prevent the state’s harsh 1931 abortion prohibition from being implemented.

If you’re a pro-choice leader, I encourage you to utilise every tool in your arsenal. This is why I have high hopes for the Biden administration,” Whitmer told CBS News.

An executive order to protect federal reproductive rights, including the availability of abortion pills, the ability to provide financial assistance to those seeking an abortion in another state, and an examination of the use of abortion by federal states was requested by 25 Senate Democrats earlier in June.
