The Hyundai IONIQ 5 has been named the winner of MotorTrend’s “Golden Calipers” for SUV of the Year. The IONIQ 5 outperformed a field of 45 all-new or considerably revised SUVs, 25 of which were electric. IONIQ 5 distinguished itself from the formidable competition with its sleek design, cohesiveness of elements, and user experience.
“Hyundai’s exceptional ability to execute in design, engineering, production, and product development is shown by the IONIQ 5 earning MotorTrend’s SUV of the Year award,” stated José Muoz, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America. “This is one of the most prestigious accolades in the automobile industry, and we are thrilled that the IONIQ 5 has been acknowledged for its superior range, power, charging speed, design, interior space, and innovative technology.”
“For the first time in MotorTrend’s 74-year history, the majority of nominees for MotorTrend SUV of the Year were electrified,” stated Ed Loh, director of editorial for the MotorTrend Group. It was one of the most competitive SUV of the Year competitions in history, which is wonderful news for customers seeking fuel-efficient, forward-thinking SUVs and crossovers.
“Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 is an affordably-priced, technologically-advanced crossover with a long range and quick-charging capabilities that stands out in an increasingly competitive market. “The IONIQ 5 doesn’t look or drive like any other EV on the road; it leads with fascinating and futuristic aesthetics and closes the sale with intuitive, human-centered technology, all in a cleverly packed crossover that suits a broad variety of garages, budgets, and lifestyles,” Loh concluded.
The IONIQ 5 received the MotorTrend SUV of the Year title by exceeding the award’s six major criteria: safety, efficiency, value, progress in design, engineering excellence, and function performance.
“The IONIQ 5 is really enjoyable to drive, combining quick handling and precise chassis tuning with luxury-level comfort and ride quality in an inexpensive mainstream EV,” remarked Erik Johnson, MotorTrend’s digital director. It’s also aesthetically pleasing, with a design reminiscent of the absolutely rad ’80s and ’90s while remaining utterly current and different in a sea of drab crossovers and SUVs. Long after you’ve driven the IONIQ 5 for the first time, you’ll find that Hyundai’s design team hit it out of the park, from the overall form to the ingenious details. I couldn’t help but glance over my shoulder after every driving stint. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is an extremely deserved recipient of the prestigious Golden Calipers.”
