On Monday, in the Premier League match between Liverpool and Crystal Palace played at Anfield, Liverpool’s forward Luis Diaz scored an outstanding goal all by himself to cancel out Wilfried Zaha’s opening goal for Crystal Palace. However, Liverpool’s striker Darwin Nunez was sent off in his first game playing at Anfield for the Reds.
However, it was Zaha who broke the stalemate, surprising the home fans with a beautiful finish to a counterattack in the 32nd minute. Liverpool had the upper hand in the first half, but it was Zaha who broke the deadlock.
Things went from bad to worse in the second half when Liverpool’s new Uruguayan acquisition Nunez was shown a straight red card for an alleged head-butt on Joachim Andersen. This made it the sixth consecutive league encounter in which Liverpool had allowed their opponent to score the opening goal.
The red card motivated Luis Diaz to take the game by the scruff of the neck in the 61st minute. The Colombian cut in from the left, beat several opponents, and curled the ball past Vicente Guaita’s despairing dive to bring the score even for the home team.
The visitors continued to exert their superiority and came dangerously near to grabbing the lead on a number of times, but Palace held strong to earn its first point of the new season. The home team has now played to a draw in both of its first two matches of the season.
