On Sunday, Borussia Dortmund defeated Bayer Leverkusen by a score of 2-0 to earn their third win in as many league matches since the Bundesliga began play after the winter break. With this victory, Borussia Dortmund moved closer to the top place in the standings by three points.
Leverkusen’s five-game winning streak in the Bundesliga was stopped by Dortmund’s convincing victory, which resulted in Leverkusen falling to ninth position.
Karim Adeyemi, a Germany international, scored his first goal in the Bundesliga in the 33rd minute following a good passing move from Dortmund. Earlier in the match, Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby had forced Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel to make a fantastic save. Adeyemi’s goal came after Kobel had made a fantastic save from Diaby.
Three minutes after the resumption of play, the goalkeeper was called into action once again to save the day, this time thwarting attempts by Diaby and Amine Adli to draw level for Leverkusen.
The away team then increased their advantage to 2-0 in the 53rd minute when defender Edmond Tapsoba scored an own goal off of a cutback by Marius Wolf. The away team will next face Chelsea in the Round of 16 of the Champions League on February 15.
After coming close to scoring an own goal for the second time in the 72nd minute, the central defence for Burkina Faso had a night to forget.
It was Julian Brandt’s cutback this time, and he tried to clear it, but instead he stabbed it toward the goal, and Jeremie Frimpong came to the rescue and cleared it on the line.
Following their third consecutive victory, Borussia Dortmund climbed into fourth position with 34 points, three points behind leaders Bayern Munich and one point behind RB Leipzig in third place. Leverkusen are on 24 in ninth position.
