The country music superstar Toby Keith revealed on Sunday afternoon through social media that he has been undergoing treatment for stomach cancer over the course of the previous half year.

The singer said that he was given a cancer diagnosis in the autumn and has been undergoing treatment consisting of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery since then.

Fred Rogers, who was most known for his cherished role as “Mister Rogers” on “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” passed away in 2003 at the age of 74 from stomach cancer. In their 70s, fashion designer Liz Claiborne and legendary Hollywood actor John Wayne both passed away from stomach cancer.

Mr. Keith, who was born and raised in Oklahoma, has been a dedicated advocate for paediatric cancer patients and the families of those diagnosed with the disease for many years. After the passing of the daughter of one of his original bandmates in 2004, he assisted in the establishment of an organisation known as Ally’s House, which serves as a hospice for Oklahoma children who are afflicted with cancer. Two years later, he established the Toby Keith Foundation, which is dedicated to assisting paediatric cancer patients and their families in Oklahoma by providing support services and free lodging for them.

With more than 40 top 10 singles and more than 30 songs that peaked at No. 1 respectively, Mr. Keith is a heavyweight in the country music business. The singer-songwriter was given the Merle Haggard Spirit Award by the Academy of Country Music the previous year for emulating the character of Mr. Haggard, who had earned 20 awards from the ACM over his career. Additionally, in January of 2020, President Donald J. Trump presented Mr. Keith with the National Medal of Arts for his contributions to the arts.

Mr. Keith published his first studio album in 1993 and is best known for his breakout song “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” which was one of the most popular country songs of the 1990s and one of his many singles, including “Red Solo Cup.” Mr. Keith’s song “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)” was published not long after the terrorist atrocities of September 11, and it catapulted him into the public consciousness.

According to the United Military Organizations, Mr. Keith has given performances for over 250,000 service personnel in 17 different nations since the year 2002. Some of these countries include Iraq and Afghanistan.

The month of October 2021 saw the release of his most recent record, titled “Peso in My Pocket.” With “Old School,” the first song taken from the album, he was able to record the highest-ever debut of his career on the radio list published by Billboard.
