WorldIn the southwestern region of France, wildfires are burning, and thus far 1,500 hectares have been destroyed

Wildfires in the southern region of France have already consumed almost 1,500 hectares of land and have forced the evacuation of thousands of visitors. On Wednesday, hundreds of emergency service members and airborne firefighters fought to bring the flames under control.

“Four planes and a lot of firemen are deployed with support coming from neighbouring departments,” stated the local authority for the Gironde department, which has been impacted by the flames. The Gironde department is one of the districts that has been affected by the fires.

Along with the rest of Europe, France is now experiencing its second heatwave in as many months, which has already caused the country to be plagued by a number of forest fires over the past few weeks.

The larger of the two fires in the Gironde region is burning in the region around the town of Landiras, which is located south of Bordeaux. Roads in the area have been shut down, and hundreds of people have been forced to evacuate their homes because the fire has already consumed more than one thousand hectares.

The second one is along the Atlantic Coast, near to the famous “Dune du Pilat,” which is the highest sand dune in Europe and is situated in the vicinity of Arcachon Bay. As a result, 6,000 people who were camping in the adjacent areas have been forced to flee.
